In line with its strategic role in providing awareness to all segments of the local community, the College of Applied Medical Sciences in Al-Kharj, represented by the Community Responsibility Unit and the Student Activities Unit of the Department of Medical Laboratories and the Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, participated with the Charitable Society for the Memorization of the Holy Qur’an in Al-Kharj, represented by Dar Maryam bint Imran in the Al-Aziziyah district, in organizing an event entitled “Diabetes and Chronic Diseases” under the slogan “Diabetes and Quality of Life for the Elderly.” This event was held in conjunction with World Diabetes Day on Wednesday, 19/11/2025, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Through this event, the College aimed to raise awareness and provide health education about diabetes and common chronic diseases in order to reduce and control associated complications, promote proper management and coping strategies, and raise awareness—using simplified approaches—of key medical tests, healthy practices, and lifestyle patterns that support healthy living with diabetes and chronic diseases, thereby improving the quality of life among elderly women.

The event included a lecture on diabetes, covering its types, complications, methods of diagnosis and treatment, and proper practices for managing the condition. This was followed by a lecture addressing chronic diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, heart diseases, and others, focusing on methods of management and control, prevention and treatment strategies, as well as the role of physical activity and physical therapy in managing such conditions. Simple and effective exercise methods were also demonstrated to enhance physical activity according to the nature of each disease. At the conclusion of the two lectures, questions and inquiries from staff members and elderly attendees were received and addressed.

The event also featured educational and awareness booths, where female students of the College provided brief explanatory presentations introducing the booths. These included health awareness and education materials, various brochures, publications, handouts, and illustrative materials aligned with the event’s objectives. In addition, the awareness booths offered certain health services, such as blood pressure measurement and assessment of the physical and health status of elderly residents of the center.
